Being a family-owned and operated business, we’re able to offer you that personal, small-town feel you’ve been looking for in a veterinary hospital. We are not a franchise, we are a small business based upon the simple premise of helping animals one pet at a time.
While our top priority is excellence in veterinary care for your beloved pet, we care equally as much about making your experiences with us just as excellent!
At Griffith Veterinary Hospital, we genuinely care about the well-being of your pets, which is why we offer a wide variety of services. We practice out-patient services, as well as a wide variety of surgery. We are not a 24/7 facility; we are a family practice. If you have an animal emergency, we recommend that you seek emergency services as quickly as possible from a qualified animal emergency facility as close to your emergency as possible.
Our typical hours are:
Friday 8am-6pm (Friday afternoon may be a relief veterinarian, call to see.)
Saturday 8am-noon (Saturdays book-up fast!)
But please call ahead to be sure, since hours may vary for holidays, etc. We want to make sure that we can be here for you, so we prefer to work by appointment whenever possible.
We are located at 240 Jennings Road, in Whitmore Lake, Michigan (which runs parallel to US-23). We are highly visible from US-23, between 6 Mile Road and Barker Road (on the WEST side of the interstate). You'll recognize us as the "log cabin on the lake", as our building is log and Wildwood Lake is outside our backyard!
We accept cash, check, Visa, MasterCard and Discover as methods of payment. We also proudly accept Care Credit. Payment is expected at time of service. If you are interested in Care Credit, please contact us to find out more! You can also visit the following website to learn more and apply for Care Credit: https://www.carecredit.com/vetmed/
In case you're curious:
We are not affiliated with any other veterinary hospitals, although others do exist with similar names. We are the "Griffith Veterinary Hospital" that is located in Whitmore Lake, run by Dr. Barbara Griffith, DVM.
All information on this website is subject to change, not excluding services, offerings, hours, and even employees. We strive to maintain our website and keep it as current as possible, but please remember that procedures and protocols are ever-changing in this line of work... so please feel free to call us or stop by to ask any questions that you may have, or to gain the most up-to-date information.
Dr. Barbara Griffith-Watkins ("Dr. Griffith") is our primary veterinarian (and owner). Unless she is out of town, ill, or in a real pinch, she should be the doctor that your pet will see at our hospital. She is a graduate of Michigan State University, both in undergrad and in graduate school. She is a licensed practicing veterinarian, specializing in small-animal medicine (dogs, cats, rabbits, etc.). She has been a veterinarian for over 40 years, and she makes continuing education a priority. This hospital in Whitmore Lake is very special to her, as is each and every one of her patients! Dr. Griffith is an animal lover and advocate, and she is also an active member of her community. Along with preventative and curative medicine, she sincerely enjoys dermatology, cardiology, and furthering the human-animal bond.
The rest of Dr. Griffith's team includes:
Nicole ("LVT" Licensed Veterinary Technician)
Rebekah (veterinary assistant)
Gabrielle (veterinary assistant)
Kristen (veterinary assistant)
Jessy (veterinary assistant)
Andrea (veterinary assistant)
Amy (certified human resources manager, organizational consultant, office coordinator)
Dr. Kim Berrie (Doctor of Veterinary Medicine, here Wednesday mornings)
On some days (usually Friday afternoons), you may meet
Dr. Hughes. He graduated from the Michigan State University College of Veterinary Medicine with Dr. Griffith and has been in practice over 40 years. He is a highly skilled surgeon and practices both outpatient and inpatient medicine. On rare occasions, other veterinarians may also fill-in for Dr. Griffith on a temporary basis (they're called "relief veterinarians"). We will let you know which doctor you will be seeing when you schedule your appointment.
Because we are a small-business with a family atmosphere, you will see many of us performing multiple roles within the hospital. The person who answers your phone call may very well be the same person who preps your pet for examination or who helps you select a method of flea prevention! We love to get to know our clients and their pets, and we hope that you feel cared about from the moment that you first meet us... because you are!
At Griffith Veterinary Hospital, we take care to provide our customers with high quality services personalized for their unique needs. We strive to stay up-to-date on cutting-edge veterinary procedures and products, to help your pet to have as comfortable and healthy a life as possible. Because we care about the health and safety of your pets... our services, especially surgical offerings, can only be done on the appropriate candidates. To find out if your pet is a suitable candidate, and healthy enough to have a procedure, please consult with your veterinarian. As with human medicine, veterinary medicine is not free of risks. We do what we can to minimize risks resulting from procedures, but we ask that you understand the risks associated with any medical procedure. This is also why we rely on you to give us as much information about your pet as possible, including any known allergies that he or she may have. This is also why we require a pre-anesthetic blood profile to be performed prior to sedation and surgery on any pet over the age of seven years (although we recommend it for any pet).
We also try to work by appointment, so that we can offer everyone the highest quality of care. Of course, emergencies do arise, so we ask for your understanding as we see patients in need-based order when applicable.
